Heather Cottage

Go wild in the country. Want a Forest adventure?

Heather Cottage is ideal for families with kids who are independent spirits and yearn for the freedom to climb trees, get muddy knees, make dens, discover hidey-holes, follow tracks and enjoy ‘Swallows and Amazon’ style adventures… All within a shout of your holiday bolthole.

From the end of May 2021 there will be a small heated outdoor swimming pool in the garden.

For right, slap, bang, opposite the cottage, through the garden gate and across an unfenced lane, stretches the New Forest National Park – a wonderful wooded wonderland in all its lush, leafy, wildness.

There’s a stand of awesome, gnarly, ancient oaks to clamber up, secluded ferny copses and sun-dappled glades to explore. The location is perfect for family getaways, allowing impromptu games of rounders, footie and frisbee-throwing on grassland manicured by grazing ponies.

And there is the fabulous restaurant at The Pig Hotel, just 7 minutes walk along the lane. (NFE have the concierge phone number…) Happy days!

Heather Cottage works as a bolt-hole for extended and multigenerational family groups or a couple of families holidaying together.

The location...

The cottage is just a 3 minute walk from the driveway to the (smashing) Pig Hotel. It's not easy to get a table there for a meal, but you can often get a walk-in coffee, or even better - just pop over for pudding and eat it in the garden. Lovely!

Brockenhurst, or ‘Brock’ to the locals, is a sleepy little red brick village in the centre of the new forest. It is encircled entirely by National Park, heathland and ancient forest.

A ford runs through the middle of the village and ponies and donkeys rub their ears on the street lights. You can take a fast train to Waterloo in well under 2 hours.
